Story Telling Workshop for Parents

Continuing our workshop series for parents, we recently organized a session on “Storytelling” for Northstar parents. Stories are central to the Northstar Approach. Educators showed how parents can use our books to engage their kids with stories at home.

Phonics Workshop for Parents

At Northstar School, our parents are partners in the child’s learning. We were so happy to invite parents to a workshop on Northstar Language Arts, focusing on Phonics concepts. This workshop will help parents to support their child’s learning at home.

Workshop Details:

Developing strong oral language skills is one of the most important goals of the early childhood period. Teachers play a direct role in students’ language development in preschool as they model sophisticated language and assist children who are developing language skills. Having a few “tools in the toolbox” will help educators take advantage of and create additional opportunities to support children’s developing language skills.

In this workshop, we will looking at various strategies that assist in providing frequent and intentional support for language development in the early childhood period.

Introduction to Cambridge IGCSE program offered by Cambridge International Examinations. Cambridge IGCSE is implemented at The Northstar School.

Workshop Details:

Introduction to completely upgraded Northstar Early Years (NEY) Program. We will also we looking at the cornerstone of NEY, the Northstar Language Arts Program. NLA is the most systematic and comprehensive language learning system which is designed based on world leading research on language and literacy education.

Workshop Details:

Northstar is on a journey to rethink education. Along this path, the school has taken many revolutionary approaches to educational thinking and practice. Central to Northstar experience is the school’s exploratory learning model. Within exploratory learning, purposeful and deep integration of various subjects takes place which fundamentally changes the learning and schooling experience of students and educators. Curricular integration is a complex design work which itself requires interdisciplinary thinking. In this workshop, we look at the philosophical principles and practical implication of curricular integration.

Understanding and Supporting Children’s Development

Northstar Developmental Screening Process for children of 1 month to 5 years

Workshop Details:

Schools perform admission tests for preschoolers (in one form or the other). Some may have pen and paper tasks, while some may have independent or guided activities or a combination of the above. The general idea being to evaluate a child’s readiness for school. At Northstar, we have implemented a rigorous, scientifically validated developmental screening process that goes beyond establishing school readiness. Northstar Developmental Screening Process (NDSP) assists in early and accurate identification children who may have developmental delays or disorders. The importance of NDSP goes beyond establishing school readiness. It establishes first level screening for timely delivery of early intervention services through professional referrals.

In this workshop we will look at NDSP and its implementation in various domains including Communication, Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Problem Solving and Personal-Social.

Learning Opportunities Design Workshop

Workshop Details:

What an amazing group of mentors we had for our first workshop. In the pursuit of our school’s “true north”, we organized a Learning Opportunities Design Workshop. We collaborated with other experts from diverse fields such as architects, artists, designers, educators, and parents to discuss ideas pertaining to learning spaces and opportunities in particular and education in general. We had productive, rigorous and fun brainstorming and team work through design thinking approach. We have customized the design thinking approach for applicability in a school context.

We look forward to meeting the participants more often in the near future.
